Pull-Ups

15 Mar

No, not the toddler diapers. Or the exercise kind. Charlotte pulled herself up on one of her toys all by herself on 3/13/12. Such a big girl! I happened to have the camera at the ready and caught her in action.

Sitting!

The baby. She sits. Unassisted, y’all!

Our Little Sweetpea

Before Christmas, I saw the cutest little onesie on Baby Steals, and just HAD to get it for Charlotte.

Flying Baby!

Steve likes throwing Charlie up in the air…. It makes me cringe every time, but I trust that he will always catch her.

2011 Year in Review

9 Jan

1. What did you do in 2011 that you’d never done before?

Not to be too obvious here or anything, but… I had a baby.  Like, birthed a live human.  Definitely never done that before.

2. Did you keep your New Year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I found out that I was pregnant on December 31st, 2010.  So I decided to not make any resolutions other than, you know, give birth to a healthy baby.  Which I totally rocked.  So I guess I did keep my resolution.  For this next year, I have a list of 5 things.  Details on those in another post.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Well, other than the obvious (myself), yes.  My best friend had her baby in early December.  My sister-in-law had my nephew in mid-December, although I wouldn’t call us “close”.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

No, thank goodness!

5. Which countries did you visit?

Does the United States count?  Cause I totally visited the shit out of Colorado and Hawaii.

6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?

I had a lot of heartburn in 2011.  For 2012, I’d like to cut down on heartburn by about half.

7. What dates from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

Well, September 7th for sure.  That was the day that I shot a really cute baby out of my who-who.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Okay, so this whole thing is apparently going to be baby centered.  I birthed a human being.  Like, she came out of my girly parts and I didn’t even use pain killers.  I’d say that’s a pretty darn huge achievement.

9. What was your biggest failure?

I’m certainly not proud of the night when I had one too many adult beverages after C was born and I ended up puking in the bathroom instead of hanging out with her.  I’ve since cut down dramatically on drinking, and when I do have drinks, I limit myself to 2 max.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

I had a bout with strep throat when I was 34 weeks pregnant.  I wasn’t super sick, but contagious, so I stayed home from work for a couple of days.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

Hmmmm.  I bought a lot of things this year (mostly for the child, are you seeing a trend here?), but I wouldn’t call any one of them the “best”.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

My husband was a total rock star at C’s birth.  He put monster pressure on my lower back which was the only thing in the world that helped me get through contractions.  He is also the best Dad in the world.  Seriously, one for the record books my friends.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

Wow, I really don’t even want to get started on this.

14. Where did most of your money go?

The baby.  Seriously, notice the trend?

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Hawaii!  We went on our delayed honeymoon in February to Hawaii and it was seriously awesome.  Despite the battle with sickness, we had a fantastic time.  We ziplined, luau’ed, snorkeled, swam, played Scrabble, read books, watched Deal or No Deal, and celebrated our last kid-free vacation for a LONG time.

16. What song will always remind you of 2011?

Pretty much anything by Sara Bareilles.  I listened to her on Pandora a LOT.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

I’m not pregnant.  I’m not working (out of the home, at least).  I’m a mother.  So basically, everything is completely different.

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?

More sleeping.  Always more sleeping.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?

Nothing really comes to mind, to tell you the truth.  Cheers to me!

20. How did you spend Christmas?

With my family, eating, drinking, opening presents, and being merry.

21. Did you fall in love in 2011?

Oh my goodness yes.  That daughter of mine is a heart melter.

22. What was your favorite TV program?

I can’t pick just one.  Tops on my list are True Blood, Dexter, and Parenthood.

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?

Hate is such a strong word.  No, I don’t hate anyone now.  Strongly dislike, and disagree with their actions/decisions?  Yes.

24. What was the best book you read?

I honestly did very little reading.  Whenever I sat down to read anything, my pregnant brain took over and I mostly just slept and drooled on books.  The one I did finish was The Help, which I really did enjoy.  I also read the Hunger Games trilogy, which I enjoyed.  I’m looking forward to the movie coming out in March.

25. What was your greatest musical discovery?

I’m not too big into new music, the vast majority of it just plain sucks.  I do really like Adele.  And I really fell back in love with Rush again this year.

26. What did you want and get?

A healthy baby, blah blah blah.

27. What did you want and not get?

A new car, but that is being remedied early in 2012.  I never thought I would be excited to get a minivan.

28. What was your favorite film of this year?

Harry Potter 7, part dos.  They did a fantastic job wrapping things up.  I also really liked Bridesmaids.

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

This year was the big three-oh, and I was 8 months pregnant.  We went up to Estes Park for the weekend and I got to enjoy a wonderful glass of white wine that I had been looking forward to since January 1st.

30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

I guess less heartburn.  More wine.  Less working.  More snuggling.

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011?

Can yoga pants and tshirts be considered a fashion concept?  Because if so, then I’m the queen of that one.

32. What kept you sane?

Tums, ranitidine, chocolate pie, and Red Robin hamburgers.

33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Eric from True Blood.  Ryan Gosling.

34. What political issue stirred you the most?

Most of my issues this year were not political.

35. Who did you miss?

All of my wonderful friends across the US.  Luckily we get to see them in June.

36. Who was the best new person you met?

Our new friends Matt and Leah, who also had a daughter a couple of weeks before C was born.

37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011.

Life will never go as planned.  A minivan is a mode of transportation, not a statement about who you are.

38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.

Twinkle, twinkle, little star…..

Resolutions, and other musings

1 Jan

Let’s be completely honest…. I didn’t totally enjoy 2011. There were some big spots of brilliance (birth of my amazing daughter, hello), but for the most part I just spent 2011 hoping for 2012 to come sooner.

It seems like every year I make resolutions, and every year they are all but forgotten by about February 1st. Now that I’m at a different stage of my life, I think I can make these stick and actually accomplish these things. A couple of them are absolute musts. I’m limiting myself to five resolutions/goals.

1) HEALTH – Obviously this is on my list every year, but going forward I have some big motivation to actually accomplish this one. I want to live to a ripe old age, and be able actively participate in my daughter’s life. In order to do this, I MUST lose weight. My goal is to be down to 200 pounds by Charlotte’s first birthday, which means I have 9 months to lose about 50 pounds. Just a couple of things I will be doing to make this happen:

  • No going back for seconds.
  • Fill plate with vegetables before digging into meat and starches.
  • Extremely limited alcohol.
  • 30 minutes of activity every single day.
  • Weigh in every Sunday and write it down on the calendar to keep myself on track.
  • Take pictures of myself on the 1st of every month so I can actually see the changes.
  • Drink 100 ounces of water per day.

2) COOKING – I want to try lots to new recipes this year, and get out of our rut of making the same 4-5 things every week. Obviously I will be aiming towards healthier recipes (see resolution numero uno), but I really just want to eat tasty food.
3) MARRIAGE – So many people have children and then let their marriage fall to the background. Steve and I certainly aren’t having problems, but I want to make sure nothing does come up. We need to take time for ourselves and be a stronger couple so that we can both be better parents to Charlotte.
4) APPEARANCE – I’m not very fashionable by nature, but I would rather look a bit more put together than I do on most days.  Losing some weight will help, but I really want to start investing in higher quality clothes that are stylish, durable, and timeless.  I need to get dressed and put on makeup whenever I am going outside of the house.  No frumpy housewife/Mom look for me anymore!  Black yoga pants do not leave the house.  Ever.
5) READING – I’ve really fallen behind on the reading front, mostly because every time I used to sit down to read when I was pregnant, I would fall asleep. This year my goal is to read 24 books, or two a month.

And that’s all.  Absolutely manageable.  Cheers to 2012!

Smiles

25 Oct

Miss Charlotte has started to work on her smiles. I haven’t been able to capture one on camera yet, but I’m sure I will in the next couple of days. I love this girl so darn much….
